Established in 2014, the US HAEA Angioedema Center at University of California San Diego offers comprehensive care for people with angioedema, state-of-the-art diagnostic tests and techniques, the latest available therapeutic modalities, a full range of support programs, and cutting-edge translational research in angioedema. The Center's mission is to translate promising scientific discoveries into new and better options for the diagnosis and treatment of all types of angioedema. The Angioedema Center, in partnership with the US HAEA, aspires to improve the lives of people with angioedema throughout the world.
The Center values a team approach to patient care, and its model features a multidisciplinary team that works together with local physicians to provide expert consultation services. Together, the team works to determine the best treatment options available for each patient. In partnership with local physicians and their patients, the Center helps guide treatment decisions and consults with them on an ongoing basis to assure continuity of care. The Angioedema Center also offers educational opportunities for nurses, physicians and other HAE healthcare providers.
Center physician scientists also conduct research on new HAE therapies. HAE treatment plans are based on the latest expertise in medicine. This unique “bench-to-bedside” approach to research and patient care is provided in a state-of-the-art reference facility on the campus of UCSD.
The Center's unique approach to angioedema research and patient care supports the broadest range of angioedema activities in the United States. From research in genetics to the most advanced treatments, the Angioedema Center is at the forefront of angioedema research, developing promising new therapies and making them available to angioedema patients not only in the US, but throughout the world.
